Materialette is a free tool designed for macOS, Windows and Linux operating systems that lets users choose colours for their flat or material designs quickly and easily. Like it’s name suggests—a combination of the words ‘material’ and palette’—Materialette is a palette that can be added to your desktop or laptop computer and can be accessed directly from the taskbar.
Save yourself from searching
Before Materialette, choosing colours for your UI required an internet search to find the perfect one, but even then you’d be hard pressed to find the variety that is offered in this unique tool. Not only is there a wide range of colours, they can be copied to your clipboard easily for use in applications and programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator without having to open a browser. The colours are laid out in a grid pattern so users can easily find colours of the same saturation and hue easily by moving vertically or horizontally.
Unobtrusive and minimal
Though the tool can make a big difference when writing code, it stays out of the way when you need screen space. It naturally hides when not in use, but users can pin it to keep it open if they find they’re drawing from it frequently. In Windows, it can be accessed from the taskbar and pops up when opened. Though it’s non-essentially, users will find the benefit of having it installed on whichever system they use.
